3 Reasons Why I’m not Quitting: Day 41, #75hard

I’m on day 42 of 75Hard, and I’ve had a few instances where I was a little tempted to quit.

But I keep reminding myself, using various examples from history and literature, that what I’m doing might be kind of hard… but it’s not really hard.

Seriously. If I you think about some of the difficulties people in history have endured, then a couple 45 minute workouts, a gallon of water, reading 10 pages, and sticking to a diet are more a privilege than anything.

Yes it tests my self-discipline among other things. But in the end, it’s not what folks through history have experienced as truly hard.

As for why I’m not quitting (the above reason just helps me stay in the game, but it’s not a reason).

  1. Improvement in my health – mental and physical – is my current top priority. My age (49) and my recent eating / drinking / non-exercising habits were catching up with me. I’m at a spot where taking care of yourself does NOT get easier. I’m not quitting because I must create new habits. Period.
  2. Developing greater mental toughness has become a goal. What is a better way to grow your competitive fire than challenging yourself and competing internally against your own temptations toward comfort and immediate gratification?
  3. I want to be an example to my family. I want them to realize they can do some things that aren’t that easy. I want them to see me carry everything I start through to completion. I want that to be a memory of their dad.

I’m on day 42, and it’s become more of a rhythm than maybe helpful. It’s time to start challenging myself more in the weight room. I’ve been focused on getting used to resistance training again and not injuring myself. My biggest fear for not finishing was hurting myself. It’s time to start pushing just a tad more.

Day 41 Stats

Workout 1: 51 minute walk/jog in the neighborhood. 3.24 miles
Workout 2: 45 minute walk in the old ‘hood. 2.56 miles

Reading: 75Hard (the book) by Andy Frisella, pages 97-114

Diet: Whole30 – I am doing an extended Whole30 Reintroduction protocol to get me through the 75 days to test which foods really mess with my body. This first phase has had a reintroduction of some dairy and openness to regular bacon vs. low sodium.
